Founded in 2001, Cabot Aerogel (initially known as Cabot Nanogel) is a subsidiary of the multinational Cabot Corporation. With 45 production facilities in 25 countries, Cabot has around 4,200 employees producing specialty chemicals such as carbon black, fumed metal oxides and inkjet colorants. Cabot Aerogel manufactures aerogels using a new production process at the aerogel plant it completed at Industriepark Höchst in April 2002. Aerogel is a unique form of highly porous silica featuring unsurpassed thermal protection and sound reduction properties. The continuous production plant is used for process development and production for market development.
