Around 80 employees work at Daikin Refrigerants Frankfurt GmbH. In addition to a plant for the fine distillation of the pharmaceutical propellant S227 Pharma, which is used worldwide in metered dose inhalers for the administration of active medical ingredients (e.g. sprays for asthma and COPD), Daikin has also been operating a treatment plant for the purification of recovered fluorinated technical gases (HFCs) since 2020, so that these can then be used again in air conditioning and refrigeration appliances. The site also has a thermal cracking plant for the harmless disposal of CFCs, HFCs and PFCs. Using a hydrogen-oxygen flame, the gases are converted into hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acid in cracking reactors and fed back into the material cycle as raw materials.
