Samsung Chemical Europe locates its "Eurolab" in Industriepark Höchst
Korean conglomerate Samsung uses Infraserv Höchst's laboratory and pilot-plant facilities for its first European Eurolab
The corporation's European chemicals division, Samsung Chemical Europe, rented laboratory space from park operator Infraserv Höchst and set up a pilot plant for extrusion. Extruders evenly push various materials through the cross-section of a die under high pressure and high temperatures. Samsung uses them to make plastic cell phone housings.
Samsung's Eurolab will process plastics with various surface characteristics at pilot-plant scale. The plastics can later be used in the production of mobile phones for different manufacturers. In short, the Eurolab is the crucible for tomorrow's cell phone housings with advanced features such as break or scratch resistance.
Samsung Chemical Europe maintains its central sales office for various plastic granulates for the European market in nearby Schwalbach am Taunus. The new site in Industriepark Höchst is thus intended to support sales.
Industriepark Höchst offers countless benefits for new tenants, including an efficient infrastructure, a central location in the Rhine-Main region and excellent access to all modes of transportation. "Samsung placed a premium on having a wide selection of services, from laboratory conversion, licensing support and waste management to IT connectivity and rigorous security and safety," explained Thorsten Strube, project manager for site development at Infraserv Höchst. "Plus, the park represents a network of companies that perfectly complement each other as manufacturers and customers, producers and service providers. Samsung Chemical Europe, for example, can call on experts within Industriepark Höchst to conduct materials testing on its plastics."
